I was getting some remaining cows out of the mountain pastures today and decided to scout a bit of mule deer country that I'd been meaning to look into. Found some nice bucks, but it looks like I may not have been the first hunter to have looked into this spot!
And while I did have my own home rolled ammunition in my 25-35 in my scabbard, I believe this fella put a bit more time into his weapon, and I'll bet a lot more hinged on whether or not this was properly constructed.

My archaeologist buddy said she estimates this to be in the neighbourhood of 10,000 years old. Guessing the headstamp on my brass won't be legible when my leavings are this old!

Sure looks like it.
Obsidian is a volcanic glass.
Flint is a sedimentary rock and usually has other rock crystals in it and is kind of dull by comparison.

Very cool find. Where is the closest location of an obsidian source? The ancient peoples sometimes traded over long distances.

That is a field point and most likely is obsidian the most original point I have recovered was a flint found in blue springs fl guess the guy missed what he was aiming at.

Clovis point, my grandfather was an amateur arrowhead hunter. But he found a couple of Clovis points. Pottery shards up the yingyang.

In a "Dry" cave in Mexico he found corn cobs 2 to 3 inches long. OLD old indian corn.

Nice find. I found an old obsidian arrowhead when I was a kid playing baseball. Scooped up a grounder and it was in my glove. Put that with a silver certificate I had plus a lot of old silver coins. Seems my siblings found my stash and it somehow disappeared. I have always found archeology very interesting. Even have prehistoric shark teeth from Shark River in NJ that my son and I searched the river for till the Park Rangers said nope.

Looks to me like either a scraper or a skinner. Scrapers didn't have to be sharp.

I have found several arrow points in Mexico. Most were obsidian.
