    ? Reducing Trigger Pull ? Rem. mod. 33 - single shot .22lr ? HELP

I have looked high & low for anything concerning this old rifle and working the sear to reduce the current trigger pull of 4 to 4 pounds 6 ounces down to 2 to 2 pounds 8 ounces.
If this can be done, it would help with the groups a great deal.

I would appreciate any help I can get and I thank you for your help.

    .

I wouldn't think a target-grade trigger pull can be achieved with a plinker/boy's rifle, but it can sometimes be made smoother with a (very) little judicious work/smoothing of the sear/striker surfaces.

The bore/muzzle crown condition should be considered & corrected, if anything amiss is discovered.

Also, many .22RF rifles are ammunition sensitive, and may do better/worse with different brands, velocity & LR/Short cartridges - so sometimes good results can be had by trying as many different brands/types of RF ammo as possible.

If nothing else, you can enjoy the range time while testing.

Think to polish the sear surfaces and not more, unless you really know what you are doing!

I've lowered the trigger pull weight on my marlin bolt action by installing a spring that is used for the safety.slide stop. Not by much, but better enough. Frank

Some of the less expensive gun do not have the parts hardened which causes drag when two pieces have to slide together. The design of most of these less expensive rifles try to keep the cost down by using less parts so most of the time there is a trigger against the cocking piece. Sometimes the design can be changed to reduce trigger pull and sometimes case hardening the parts will help. Sometime changing the trigger spring can help as long as it does not make the gun unsafe. In many cases changing the trigger out with something like a Timney trigger will work best.

All I did was polish like you guys recommended...that made it smooth and I dropped a full pound. Now it's 3 pounds 8 ounces and very manageable...thanks to all for your suggestions.

On my Trapdoors, I put anti-seize grease on the sear engagement surface. Makes a difference.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.
