That is exactly why I embarked on this journey. For over 60 years, this classic old Winchester has been a wall hanger/safe queen. It deserves better.

It will be extremely satisying to bring the old girl back to life and connect with a time long past.

I slugged the old smoke wagon tonight. The bore is 0.4570". Now waiting for my reloading gear to arrive and to find some brass.

    Thanks, everybody for the advice.

Have fun with it. On the cleaning part of it, I shot my Whitney Kennedy for the first time last week. Shot 60 rds and forgot to bring a cleaning rod and wet patches to run down the bore every magazine or so. I guess I forgot I was shooting black powder. Anyways, when I cleaned it I put it upside down in my gun vise with the action open and ran a brush down the bore. One stroke and I dropped quite a large pile of what looked like powdered graphite onto the table directly under the open top action. I imagine you could do the same when you clean yours.
