Powder coating and the 30-06 ??

What heavy powder coated bullet, 200gr or so are people shooting in their 30-06?
I have the 170gr RCBS 308-309-Sil mold but want a heavier bullet and to make sure it will fit after being powder coated.

    Thanks

I size my boolits after coating to 3095" with the Lee push through sizer. Shoot them in 30-30, and 30-06. I've ran them as high as about 2400 fps range, Never a hint of leading.

I use the Accurate 31-210E in the .30-06 (Garand). Powder coated. Nose sized to .302, body sized to .310.

My best accuracy has been with loads approaching 2000fps. So far IMR4198 and 3031 have been good for mine.

The Lee 170 fn, and an Accurate 170. Both gas checked.

Not 200 grains but, the Lee 309-170-F sized .311 after coating (178gr all dressed up) is the most accurate boolit I’ve found in my ’06. Several close seconds but so far the Lee is the winner.

I shoot 150, 180 and 230 grain boolits PCed in 30.06. They work fine. All bores should be slugged to calculate the correct diameter to size to after PCing.

I use a SAECO #44-- an old mold, in my Garand. Plain based and runs about 180 grains. It's a spire point. I run upwards of 2000 fps with Smoke's clear.

Lee C309-200 RNFP, sized to .310”, gas checked, HiTec coated, pushed to 2400 FPS, in a Remington 700 in ‘06, no leading so far, but, the recoil is ferocious in that synthetic stocked rifle. Good luck with your endeavors.

Gents, sorry to resurrect a thread after 3 months, but I'm wondering - What kind of groups are you getting from these powder coated 30-06 bullets?

I've got a young nephew with a 30-06 who is interested in having his uncle cast and reload some 30-06 for him to shoot.

Without too much fuss, and just following the advice found on these pages, I average about 3" @ 100yds in my Garand, Weatherby Vanguard, and my Trapper in 30-30.

Same here with my Garand. But, it is my eyes that are the problem.

My .308 bolt gun is usually under 1.5" at 100yd with PC bullets. I have a few groups that are 1.5" at 200yd.

2” or better in a decent boltgun with 2400 powder at 1600-1800 fps seems to be almost a given. 1500-1600 fps with Red Dot (or Promo) or Unique. Be sure to clean all the copper out before switching to cast.
