Colt 1892 (1901) new army - cylinder peening

When I received this revolver, the leaf spring on the hand was broken and the bolt was loose inside the side plate. Basically the cylinder was spinning freely (manually, but not by the trigger) and was not locking all.

I'm ordering a new hand and spring, but what would be causing the peen at rear of cylinder.

Update: can't upload photos directly, I will post link.

Well, it's only conjecture, but the peening may have been a result of the spring and hand going bad before finally breaking. There's no way of knowing if the problem will persist with installation of the new parts until you run it for awhile and observe. The bolt falling early is often the source of peening. You might consider replacing the bolt also.

    Thanks man,
Thats kind of what I was thinking may have happened but my level of understanding is purchasing new parts and then installing.

I may use a flat tipped punch and try to peen those notches back down a little before I get it up and running again.

The sideplate has a bent pin, that i believe interacts with the hand so I think this is a case of one part failing another and then another.
