I found primers out the wazoo

Franklin Gun Shop in Franklin, TN has a buttload of small rifle primers. Regular, magnum and match CCI are $139.99 per thousand.

(I think I know why their shelves are full)

That's awesome. Available for those that have none and need them. Supply and demand working exactly as it should.

It'll be interesting to hear how well they sell at that price.
At any rate, it's good to see the supply chain starting to move.

For those that will pay that much:
Folks that normally shoot a lot, or competitive shooters, who want to keep doing it will get hit pretty hard,
but for the ones that only reload a couple hundred rounds every year or so-- an extra $10 or 20 dollars here or there is no big deal.

Or, if I'd just gotten a AR, didn't have any ammo for it, and figured 1,000 rounds would last me a few years,
I'd probably buy one box at that price.
Then, just not shoot quite as much as I really wanted to when I went to the range so it'd last awhile.

This is my exact story. I got an AR in 350L at a good price just as the scamdemic hit. I got everything I need to start loading but the primers. I did just recently get 1000 for a high price, but what's a guy to do. Midway had them two days ago for 90.00/1000, but I see they're sold out. Lohmans still has them listed for 118.00/1000. Still cheaper than buying loaded ammoes.

Once a republican is back in the WH for a year, the prices will be low. Then buy a lifetime supply of everything you need. Many of us did this in Trumps 2ond and third year. There were sales on everything reloading.
There is no difference between communism and socialism, except in the means of achieving the same ultimate end: communism proposes to enslave men by force, socialism—by vote. It is merely the difference between murder and suicide. Ayn Rand

I kinda have my doubts we'll ever see another Republican in the White House, but I follow your logic.

I'm not paying that for primers yet. I stocked up fairly well last time, not like I should have, but I'm comfortable for a while. Not shooting as much as I used to.

If they price shooting out of reach, I'll take up another hobby. Archery is always out there still.

I hate to say it but if I could find them I would by a couple of thousand for that. Like someone else said I started getting in to the rifle thing about the time this hit so I did not have many at all since I did not use many. Luckily I could still find some suitable powders. I stocked up on everything I was using but it sure is making it hard to experiment with something new.

Makes you wonder how they got up the wazoo.
Paper targets aren't your friends. They won't lie for you and they don't care if your feelings get hurt.

And if that experience accounts for part of the premium.

Pneumatics is where I'm concentrating. Have a .177 and two .22's. Looking to move on into large bore airgun later on this year. BTW, almost "fool proof" on the reloading end. The .22's with Slugs is quite efficient.

Similar plan here. I have two .22 PCP's. Will add two good pistols when I find the right model. Good air guns are not inexpensive but they are cheap to shoot. I am holding under 1" groups at 50 yards and closer to .6" if the wind is under 5 mph...I will get better at reading the wind as I shoot more. BTW those are not wallet groups but the average of dozens of 5 shot groups. My pellet guns will outshoot most .22's and are a joy to shoot...no cases to police and no hearing protection.

During the last shortage, .38's were my .22 LR replacements so, like a "fool", I bought tens of thousands of them waiting for the next .22 shortage. Boy did I miscalculate...LOL. Never imagined both.22's and primers would be unobtanium....but I switched gears and made lemonade out of lemons.

Sold most of my primers, but kept a 6 year supply. If I never bought another primer, I have a lifetime supply for "serious work". Putting holes in paper and shooting reactive targets does not take 125-200 gr bullets at 800-2000 fps. And for most people, plinking and punching paper is the vast majority of shooting.

I will likely buy another 100-150k primers when things get back to normal. But for now, shooting PCP gives me the rifle trigger time I need to stay sharp and have fun. I am down to less than 500 CF rounds this year.

Way I look at it, if I had to pay $140/K for primers, instead of $40/K, then that means a box of 20 308 win costs $2 more

14 cents a peace! I certainly won’t be buying any! I can get them cheaper off the Internet scalpers here locally in Virginia.

Around here you can get CCI small rifle primers for around $65/1000.

Most of the folks living in and around Franklin can afford those prices , if they want to .
