    Remington 512 goodness

I pulled out a long neglected friend for a trip to the range today. I learned to shoot with a Remington 512. It was my late father's rifle and now resides with my brother.

I found this for sale at a gunshow in 1985. I remember because it was the year my wife and I got married. She was at the show with me. The good old days! Ha!

I have a Burris 3X9 Fullfield that I am saving for another rifle but I decided what the heck, I'll put it on the Remington. I got it mounted last week and today I got to try it out.

After zeroing at 50 yards (excellent groups also) I moved the target out to 100 yards to shoot my Savage M12. Before I retrieved my target for the day I decided to launch a few at 100 yards with the 22LR. Conditions were perfect. 80 degrees and no wind. I put the second hashmark on the orange sticker and took 5 shots. I was very happy.

These old rifles will really perform.

I would be very happy with that too!

I have a pre 1968 514. Same rifle, only it's a single shot. Love that rifle.

I had a Remington 512 when I was a boy, dad paid $25.00 for it. I took it out every chance I got, so long as I had ammo for it, until a clumsy cousin got his hands on it and returned it with a broken stock, but plate in pieces, bolt sheared off, and him with a .22 bullet hole in his foot. He and I didn't talk much after that and all I got was $5.00 trade in on a 513T that NEVER got loaned out.

Very good shooting. I feel lucky to have about 15 of those in the 500 series.

Thank you for the kind words but the rifle gets all the credit.

My brother in law just showed me a Remington 512 that was made in 1956. It is factory grooved for scope rings and in very good condition. I hope to shoot it soon.

Update: Four of us "seniors" had a blast with it yesterday- trying to hit a quarter sized Bullseye offhand on the target at 25 yards- in high winds. We were all laughing and joking with each other like a bunch of kids. The 512 is a great gun. My wife and her brother both managed to hit it a couple of times, but my sister in law and I only got close. Of course I blamed it on the bright sun and 30mph wind!

I wish mine had the factory grooves. With my eyes, I need an optic to get the best out of a rifle.

I am moving that direction myself. I just put a scope on my favorite lever gun after years of iron sights.
