    Images of Hurclies Reloader 7.

G'day guys, Does anyone have any images of Herculies Reloader 7 gunpowder? I am at present going to try loading my 375 Winchester with Alliant Reloader 7. I pulled a 375 W that I had loaded with 200gr Winchester bullets and 37gr of an extremely short extruded powder that is as long as it is round. Further it has intermittent flecks of a red powder of approximately the same size. I loaded these sometime back in the early 1980's. I thought I had reloaded them with Herculies R 7 but it is a different powder to the Alliant Reloader 7 I have at present. Can anyone help me out in this regard.

    Bob

BobInAus, I think your ammo might have been loaded with Red Dot, not Reloader 7.

Red Dot is flake powder that has red coloured flakes included for identification (same as Green Dot and Blue Dot). I can’t recall any Reloader 7 made by Hercules or Alliant having any coloured flakes.

If your ammo is loaded with Red Dot it will be way over loaded. I’d suggest you dismantle and dispose of the powder.

JFE, the loads in these cartridges are capacity loads. I remember using them wayback (1980's) on pigs, droped them in their tracks. I still have about 3 or 4 boxes of them. I bought 200 rnds when I bought the big bore in 1979. When I got the 32 WS I concentrated on that for ages.

    Thanks for the info.

Red Dot is a very fast burning powder with a burning rate is similar to AS-30, Bullseye etc.

If it is Red Dot, the pressure will astronomical and very dangerous.

The original Hercules Reloder 7 had those colored bits in them. The new Aliant Reloder 7 doesn't. It also burns a little different. Mabe 10 years ago I did some chronograph testing with Aliant Reloder 7. I tested a starting load for the .45-70. I was using starting data for the hercules version of the powder, but used Aliant Reloder 7. I hit right around max velocity at the starting load. This was a surprise to me as I was told they were nearly identical. I emailed the Reliant people and they said my velocities were about what they'd expect!

Those pictures are showing perforated logs looks like a rifle powder with red identifier on it.

Red dot is a flake powder and has pink flakes mixed in it.

    Greetings,

It appears that you have no idea what powder is in the cartridge.

Safest bet would be to burn it and start again.

This time, label your storage boxes.

    Cheers,

    Dave

I do have some hercules RE7 in an original can - if you still need a pic ? gimme a few hours to go find it

Red Dot ? I believe a full case of red dot in the 375 BB would be a life ending experience (the gun for sure, yours maybe)

Hercules Re7, as stated above, had red identifiers. It was also short cut extruded. Red dot is round flakes.
