I use the 160gn in my Model of 1917 Remington with good results, but I prefer the Lee 155gn for a K31 and K11.

ok, I know very little about older military rifles, so--I googled k31 to try and learn a thing or two. crazy thing is wikipedia says the k31 has max firing range of 6015 yards that's --what-- like 3 1/2 miles. what am I missing out on here or do they got numbers way wrong?

Infantry rifle combat in WWI was (and I'm going to grossly over simplify here) many times an exercise in volley fire/area saturation. Sort of a hold over from practices of war pre-1900. Mass formations of soldiers in trenches firing at grid squares thousands of yards away. If you look at a lot of rifle sights of the era, most were graduated out past 1000, sometimes 2000 meters. Obviously you weren't trying to pick off individual soldiers, but rather disrupt formations and stuff like that. If the K31 is a 3 MOA gun, that's a bullet in a 15 square foot box at 6000 yards. Really not that bad if 20 guys are shooting down into a mountain valley at the same target. I would call it enthusiastic at best haha

Over time that went away. Sights were machined down for newer ammo with flatter trajectories, or changed out completely depending on the rifle/country. The Enfield No. 1's volley sight started at 1600 and went out to like 2800 yards, but the later No. 4's ladder sight was only graduated out to 1300. The battle sight was still zero'd for 300 yards though.

I use Accurate 5744 or Reloader 7 and take load data from the Lyman 49th and Lee's 2nd Edition.
I have no chrono data -sorry!

thanks, i have used a great deal of accurate 5744 because 4759 has disapeared around here.many folks are talking up the reloader 7 so i will look for it(with little hope of finding it anytime soon)....now my 5744 is all gone,i guess its 2400 or unique untill people stop the hoarding or i decide to use my small supply of 3031 . i do have the lyman 49th edition.

I have had good luck with this lee boolit in a .308 Ruger Scout Rifle using a moderate load of 2400 got me 1" groups at 100 yards. I sized it at .310 and used 45-45-10 lube. GF

I’m using the Lee 155gr GC OVER 16-24gr of #2400.
PC and sized .314”, the Mosin thinks it’s “candy”. 24.0gr gets about 2400fps from 29”bbl.
From the #4mk1, I use 20gr and 450yd sight setting.
    Fun day at the range!
