    45 colt

I took another pig today with the henry 45 colt. I was hunting from a bow stand about 15 feet up and the hog was about 35 yards away. one shot broad side. I would guess he went about 45 yards, weaving between trees. I don't think he knew which way he wanted to go, a bit of zig zagging. The blood trail was not great but enough, about every three feet or so I would find blood on grass or a tree. My guess it he weighed about 275 or a bit more. The load was a 250 gn flat nose I think it was a lee mold. the bullet was propelled by 18 gns of 2400.

Several years ago I shot a deer with the load but I was using g a bullet out of an1884 mold. The power charge is one I have heard came from Elmer Keith. Congradulation on the up coming g eats.

Congrats! You didn't say how far that boolit penetrated or if it was a clean through. Picture of the hog?

Love the 45 Colt out of my Rossi 92. The 250 gr. Lee or Lyman or any other mold is as heavy a boolit as you will ever need to take , deer, elk, hog, black bear. I think heavier boolits are a waste of lead and over kill, and they kick harder. This is just a personal choice, and not a slam aginst heavier boolits because each to his own.

I got a very accurate load using mp 454640 lubesized at .454 with 20 grains 4227 in Rossi 92, I never put the 20 grain load over chrono but 19 grains was right at 1200 fps

I am a real fan of Unique, 9gr. gives about 900 plus fps, and both the Lee and Lyman are very accurate out of my Rossi and Blackhawk. I also have the Lee 220gr PB and the 230gr RN PB. I all so have the Lyman 215gr GC, they all shoot real well with Unique.

Good shooting! My H&R Classic Carbine likes the Lyman 454424 with 10gr of Unique. It's sighted and ready for deer season to come.
