    348 Winchester cast boolit joy

Tried four loads with Mt Baldy 250gr GC cast boolit. Found a winner using 4831sc, Fed LR primers, sized x 3 WW brass, eyes from the first half of the last century
Rifle, well worn Winchester 71. Redfield receiver sight, King reflector front sight:

    50yds:

    100yds:

    Chrono 2020fps.

I noticed when I shot jacketed bullets after the test the first shot was always high (6" or more), then the remainder of the shots returned to zero.

The other loads I tried gave groups twice that size.

    Looks good enough to me.

Nice bear, and a nice rifle as well. Nothing beats a Winchester M71 in .348.

I have a Browning M71 (couldn't find and original for sale). I've have taken a moose and few deer.

I have a Browning 71 carbine. I put a BurrisFastFireII on it. I use it for hunting also. I only shoot J-bullets in it.My best load for the Hornady bullet is also with H4831sc. This is a typical (I kid you not!) 3 shot 100yd group with that set up. I'm not really a fan of the dot for target shooting , it basically obscures most of the black in this target. I try and center the dot with a rim of black and bingo, incredibly good accuracy. Great for shots on game out to 200 yds, my limit with this round anyway.

Awesome pic and bear! I take my win 71 bear hunting every year for rain, snow days when i don't want to try and keep a scope dry. Haven't had a shot at a bear with it yet. Want to try cast bullits in it. Congratulations. What's your powder charge?

My Browning 71 gets a CBE 225 Gascheck + 56 grains Winchester 760 = chrono 2350 FPS - its a good load for a tough old boar pig - tried the hornady 200grain J boolit but too fragile up close .

My load for above 250 cast boolit was 59gr H4831sc,. Loads with IMR4350 (53gr) and H4895 (43gr) gave groups 2-3x as large. These loads were safe in my rifles, use at your own risk!!! I SUGGEST YOU GET YOUR LOAD DATA FROM PUBLISHED RELOADING MANUALS,NOT SENILE OLD Farts like me!
