Once I started loading 9mm and my plinking Volume increased I wanted to get away from pan lubing. I picked up a Lee TL 356-124 TC mold. Casted up a bunch of boolits and started tumble lubing. My experience with them didn't turn out to well. I had 4 out of 10 that were fliers or keyholes.

My results were probably due to not flaring the case mouths properly. I didn't try to diagnose the problem I just went back to the Lee 356-124-TC with the single lube groove and tumbled lubed them. After getting rid of the mold I got to thinking that the boolits was getting swagged down by the case.

I started with that mold and if I didn't have another to try I would have given up casting. I call it the keyhole special. It seems to be ok from what others have said if you don't get the TL version. Things may have changed since 93 but that's my story.

I used that Bullet, but not the TL version. Keyhole city.

Get the regular truncated cone 120gr mold. I use a 6-cav version and add 2-3% tin/antimony solder wheel weights.
I size to .357” for my 9mm. More accurate than the .356”. I use SPG lube and Lyman #450sizer-lubricator.

    I have a TL-124TC. Like another poster stated, key-holes!

If you decide to get the mold anyway, powder coat them. They tend to cast undersized, and the powder coat adds a slight amount of thickness. With really light loads I was able to get “ok” accuracy.

The .358” 125gr RFN is better yet. It casts to ~129gr and approximately.359”. Sized to .357” it’s exceedingly accurate.

I powder-coat the TL version and it shoots pretty good using a max load of HS-6 but I began getting 'tumbles' when I shifted to WW231. Unfortunately, I'm now out of HS-6 and haven't yet gotten around to trying other powders.

I’ve got some that have been coated with Hy-Tec coating ready to load. That’s as far as I’ve gotten. The 148 gr. are doing great though.

I use the Lee 356-124TC and it works really, really, well in all my 9mm's BUT-- I size to 0.356 and then PC up to around 0.358. It's a really good bullet for PC

What's with that modified nose? Looks to me that something went haywire during production.....
I've got that mold in 2 cavity and like it. Works good unsized in 9mm and 38, and it works good PC'd in 38.
