    Puffball mushroom pizza!

Found a couple on my land last week. One started cracking open so I tossed it.

It’s been years since I ate these. I cut the one up,spayed Pam on both sides, and salt n peppered them. Baked till brown and then froze. Figured I’d try pizza crusts with them..or pancakes. I pan fried a few pieces with an egg wash and bead crumbs.

I thawed out a couple the baked circle slices today and made a pizza out of one of them for lunch. Just applied pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni on the pre baked crust and baked for 15 minutes at 350. I then bumped the oven to 425 and baked for another 5 minutes to get the cheese melted. YUM!

Im Going to try a couple of the baked crusts I made for pizzas as pancakes. Just going to heat, ad some powdered sugar, butter, and syrup.

I gave my neighbor half of the one I cut up. They pan fried it all in eggs and crackers the same night. Needless to say they volunteered to help find more.lol

Well I've never seen a puffball anywhere near that size! Most of them around here get about the size of a golf ball, then turn powdery.
    That pizza sure looks good.

Substituting one for a pancake didn’t trip my trigger….

But the pizza and fried pieces were awesome.

It's been years since I've seen one bigger than a tennis ball.

The giant puffballs are pretty common in my area. I just keep forgetting to look for them till it’s to late.

We used to get them that size in the yard growing up. We usually just waited till later, and kicked them to see the poof. Come to think about it, I haven't seen any here in South Dakota. I'll have to keep my eyes open this weekend when I'm running the bear baits. I'd live to try a mushroom crust pizza.

Those aren't puffballs. Seriously, they are giant puffballs, that's what they're called. All I have here are much smaller versions. I wish I had the Giant puffball species.

Feel like sending me some spores?

We used to grill them. Slice, brush with oil, sprinkle on some seasonings that I’ve forgotten. They grow in southern MI and northern IN.
