On having more tin (sn)) than antimony (sb) check this thread out and start reading at post #50.
    https://castboolits.gunloads.com/sho...y-Alloys/page3

I was just shooting for an economical alloy that would have 2% tin for fill out and enough antimony to give a bhn of 10. The other choice seemed to be the classic 20/1 which is not very economical.

i recently got a Corbin S press. There is no comparison, its tight tolerance, roller bearings and has 2 stroke settings, the longest stroke is for reloading and stronger than any mass prod press out there, put it on the short stroke and you have some real power. You can add a longer lever for even more leverage. Everything that was a challenge before (like making gas checks) feel like nothing now. It hurt the wallet but you get what you pay for. If you want the mack truck of presses corbin makes the mega mite, but its a beast. Corbin's brother also has a company that makes the walnut hill press for cheaper and i hear great reviews. These presses are made for swaging bullets so very powerful but can be used for reloading as well.

almar: There's a sticky at the top of the swaging section called "Lets Make a Swage Press". It tells how to make a press that's very much like the Corbin S press. Most people don't have welders or machine shop equipment and don't have the resources to build their own swage press, but you might be able to get some helpful insights or learn some new information if you check out that thread.

If the Rockchucker is too light I move to the A2. Then to the BMG press if necessary.

My A2 ram is 2 piece, will take a solid ram extension.

But I never had any trouble with my RCBS or Lyman sizers. Also have two Star sizers, they work great. I size up to 50 cal. centerfire and 54 cal. black powder.

Does that mean you have the solid ram extensions?

Stockcarver: That's an interesting looking slug you're using with the 458. What mold is that from? It looks like it would make a dandy hunting boolit for a 45-70.

Something else to think about is the bullet sizing die itself .
I have some H&I dies for a Lyman 450 from early 1970's ...they came from factory very smooth and well polished ... no difficulties sizing cast boolits , plus 50 years use have left them Smoooooth ... easy to size boolits . I bought a brand new .358" and .412" dies to go along with my old .357" and .410" dies ... What a difference ... the new dies are not as smooth and when sizing with them more resistance is felt ...not so much pushing into the die but on the upstroke , getting the bullet out is sometimes downright difficult ! I need to polish these dies untill they are baby's behind smooth ... and they don't have as many lube holes ... I don't like the new H&I dies not as well made .
Sizing is much easier with the older smooter dies ... if you have new dies try polishing them .

I was having a tough time sizing PC'd boolits through Lee sizer dies on a RC2. Seemed like more of a friction issue than sizing, light mist of water on the PC'd boolits and they zip right through, difference was surprising.

You might try polishing the inside of the sizing die. I had one that had similar issue but was fine after a polish. Surfaces may look smooth but at microscopic level could be too rough. Very fine polishing paste on a tight wad of cotton material is all it takes. Don't overdo it, polish, test, polish, test.....

+1 on sizing asap after casting before they have time to harden significantly.

You may want to check out BT Sniper's modified Lee Classic Cast press. He is listed under the Vender Sponser Forum.

Lee Classic Cast press with upgraded linkages, auto eject system and threaded ram top ($399.00)

Either that or find a used Sea Girt press. It is an amazing press. Using BT's dies I can swage, size, form anything from .458 SOCOM to 30 Blackout.

Here is my favorite, .358 projectiles swaged from 9mm cases for the .357 Maximum

I lube my boolits liberally with a good lube. That’s why I Size only after PCing. I don’t want the uncoated boolit to be contaminated by the lube. I have a Rock Chucker and sizing boolits, is about all I use it for these days. The bench is now bolted to the concrete pad. Maybe I should look into a longer handle for it too.

Change the angle of your press lever by backing the die out so you’re at the bottom of your stroke. If you run out of lever gradually screw down the die. I have an old Bair Kodiak that is extremely overbuilt. Used it to squeeze bullets bigger for my enfield.

    Agreed,this is a super product.

Fast, easy, clean dry lube. Can also be used before coating (Hi Tek or PC) with no effects on coating afterwards.

I just sized a bunch of 380 grain Accurate .478" (plus PC) NLG bullets down to .476" using an old Lube-A-Matic. No excessice force needed at all. They will be 20 BHN, cast and PC:d today. I size many big, hard and heavy bullets on that LAM because I have the dies.

I've been using Aqualube for a couple of years now.

Aqualube is also great anti-seize for rifled choke tubes.

    EDIT: I have 10% SB .

Apples aren't oranges, cartridges aren't bullets. That photo explains better than words ever could how reloading presses are made for reloading cartridges, not for swaging bullets.

IF I wanted to make jacketed bullets (I don't, because I can buy much better bullets for much less money) I'd get a Corbin or Walnut Hill press.
