    Little Things Make Things Easier

It took me 5.5 years to think of this... I was having a nice casting session with the Pro Melt when it occurred to me that I could make the mold guide a little slicker. So I retrieved a stick of LBT mold lube and rubbed it a couple of times on the guide. What a difference! Molds glide with ease now.

    That's so simple it's brilliant!

I already have a rag handy that's got two stroke oil and/or sprue plate lube on it, used to wipe the top of the blocks and the sprue plate. Now it'll have one more use.

I've been doing that for Years. Actually use a high temp aluminum grease.

But I'm too dumb to pass it on.

I have multiple 6-cav aluminum and 4- and 2-cav brass molds that are awkward and heavy. I made a "platform" below the spout from multiple smooth sided steel shims that I heat up periodically in the PC toaster oven. While bottom pouring, I slide the mold over the platform, which helps in the fight against fatigue. Lubricating the platform is going into the mix at the next casting session - thanks.
If it was easy, anybody could do it.

I use the same sprue plate lube for the mold guide...makes a remarkable difference.
