Help with Ogive Selection - light .224

    Hi

I want to swage .224 jacketed bullets in the lighter weights - 40-50 grains. This particular load will be for a 1:14 twist barrel (.225 Win with a 22 inch). Most shooting will be at 200 or less on paper. But maybe I’ll get a chance to shoot farther.

My baseline assumption is nothing greater than a 6s (plus, a 6s works nice in a lot of other .224 guns). But I don’t know that much. Can anyone share some experience?

    Thanks

I agree with you on the 6s ogive. I use my 6s .224 Corbin pointing die for everything from 45 grain to 90 Grains.

You might try the 40gr 22tcm bullets just for grins. Not much of an ojive so more bearing surface.
I can send you a few if interested.

Thanks so much Jim, offer is appreciated. What’s TCM? Truncated Cone something or other?

    .
    Agree here,
The 6S is a bit much for the 40gn unless you leave a lot of empty jacket at the front, which works as well if just putting holes in paper.
I am a fan of a 2E round nose for the 40gn. Gives you heaps of bearing surface, makes for excellent soft points with shorter jackets and when shooting low velocity gives reliable expansion. I run both the 2E and the 6S
