Lyman model 56 receiver sight

On my Marlin 39A, I have Lyman's 56 sight. Is this sight designed and intended to remove/replace its horizontal bar? I ask because I want to mount a scope with Warne steel detachable mount/rings assembly. If remove/replace Lyman 56's horizontal bar will not harm its zero or harm the sight's longevity, I want to keep it affixed — that is, base affixed permanently; horizontal bar in a pocket on the sling.

Yes, these sights are so designed. Notice the small set screw through the horizontal bar on the left. It is intended to allow reseating of the movable body to the same elevation as when removed.

I fixed it for you...…..

After zeroing, the limit setscrew is screwed down enough to touch the top of the sight base to insure no loss of vertical zero when R&R'd.

Lyman did not make a #56 sight for Marlin 39 IIRC. I think that you have a Lyman #66 receiver sight, the 66 was designed for gun receivers with flat sides.

The Lyman 56 MC was for the Marlin 92, 97 and the 39. The 56 and 66 were for flat sided receivers, the 57 was for rounded ones.

Lyman 56 sights are highly sought after... base & staff are steel, not alloy. If you choose to remove the windage staff for scope clearance, don't misplace it... replacing will be painful, nice complete sights are running over $250 these days.
