got it to hot. I use an old crock pot so it just simmers.

Yep, ya burnt it! Probably stunk real bad too huh? I mean like a car that ya ran without oil in it and the engine seized stink! A cheep Wally world hot plate on low is your friend! Ya just want to get it hot enough to be able to mix it.

Hard to beleive i burned it when I was using a single burner hot plate that kept kicking off when it got warm ....there was no smoke and it took like 45 minutes to even begin to melt.......also the grease did not melt so much as got soft and changed color....never did what I would call liquefy....about like somewhat runny refried beans.

How many kinds of Lucas oil red and tacky #2 are there ?

Turned Brown = Too much heat .
Lucas R-N-T , like all other's , doesn't melt . You warm it up , and blend it with a heavy wire whisk.
Let it cool and repeat the warming and blending process three times .
An old crock pot is best ...long -low and slow . Heat - blend and cool three times .
Crock pot on low will keep you from burning . Grease never melts ... it just softens a little .
The multiple stirrings (whisk is best) is the mechanical blending / mixing process that gets it into a proper lube .
No Lucas Oil #2 ... Lucas Red-N-Tacky Lithium Grease ... no #2 ,
use original Lucas Red N Tacky Grease , mfg. part no. 10005 .

Lucas oil is the company name of the Lucas red and tacky lithium grease #2. Pretty sure if I have a tube of red n tacky #2 ....I have the right stuff.

Melt wax crayons in there to change the color - if brown is not tolerable and the "goo" doesn't stink. Maybe your $40 in materials is not lost.
