    barrel brushes

when I worked at the scrap yard I filled a gallon ziplock bag with brass barrel brushes I found there one day. well years have passed and the bag is nearly empty.
ive tried a few different ones, in calibers I didn't have I picked up last year at rural king, and there ok but was wondering what brand others think are the best.
I like to keep my barrels clean.

I have used brushes going on 50 plus years and it took me awhile to understand that a squeaky clean barrel is not the best in some rifles in a couple of my rifles one or two fouling shots are needed to get my zero back with certain loads. I know somebody is gonna flame me about (well my xyz shoots moa out to x yards and it is clean enough to eat off of.)

I can not find a lot of difference in the major brands. I buy in bulk for the common calibers. 22 ,30 and .45

I kept an assortment of brushes and mops in my tool box at work along with a 7" pistol rod. They were great for clearing chips from holes and threads. Also good for cleaning holes after they came back from anodizing.

Some brushes are oversize. If the brush doesnt enter the bore easily , dont force it. Mine was in 243 & first time ever a problem, in 50 + years. Rem 40x & Dewey coated steel rod.

Brushes ordered from Midwayusa. Forgot brand. ProShot i think?

That's what I was going to say. They have the Lewis Lead Remover too if it's deep. LOL

just looked at the Pro Shot vs Brownells...looks like Brownells has abandoned the brass core on their line. So If I was buying today I would go with Pro Shot or Sinclair.

I use the nylon brushes on a Dewey rod. They do a good job, and seem to last longer than the bronze ones.

I almost never use a brush, unless I'm trying to remove copper fouling.
I prefer a Jag, woven cotton patch and Ed's red.
I will add a strand of copper from a scouring pad if I need to remove lead fouling.

My brushes get a wrap of chore boy for lead removal. I clean with patches and Ed's red.

I use pro shot .50 cal. In my .45 cal. Then when it wears down i use it in my .40 cal. It takes out lead and cleans great.
