Possible score on powders and primers

A guy on another forum wants to get rid of old stuff he no longer needs.

SP match primers for $20/k....no brainer on those

He is selling powder for $20/lb
I plan on taking all the 4064 he has.
Might take the 3031.

He has some obsolete stuff too. 7625, 4320. Not sure they are worth getting as I have never used them. The only rifles I plan to load for are 5.56, .30/30, and .308. Most of my pistol shooting is .38, .38+P, 9mm....and I have plenty of powder for those calibers.

Says he has about 40 lbs of powder.

The 4320 has at least some applications in all three rifle calibers you mentioned. 7625 I don't know, but somebody out there wants it just because it's discontinued. I have recently seen 4064 advertised somewhere in stock at $40. At $20 you should already have it home.

I paid $32/lb for 4064 recently. Don't really need anymore but for $20, I would buy it anyway

4320 when it comes right down to it is a bit like Varget-works well in a bunch of calibers for a whole bunch of years.

Thanks for the advice. On the obsolete powders, I will take them if he has enough to make load development worthwhile. One or two pounds is not enough to waste my time, primers or bullets on if I cannot buy more of it.

I typically buy a minimum of 16 lbs of a powder, so once I have a good load I am set for a while. If I was in a supply shortfall I would look at it differently but I do not “need” powders.

I get what you're saying, but 2 buddies of mine and I bought 80# of an "obsolete" powder when we were in high school. Loaded everything from 22 Hornet to 338 Win Mag with it and it always performed flawlessly (we were under the guidance of an older gentleman who always came up with some load data). We just finished the last of "the keg" 2 springs ago. We all decided it was like sharing a bottle of vintage wine - enjoyable while you had it. I cannot count the stories that I could recount while that powder rested in the cartridges we were using. Point being, if it can work for you - why the heck not?

p.s. I am not advocating using powder that is 8ish decades old by this post.

My 8x57 likes 4320. I would not hesitate to try it in 308 but I'm saving it for the Mauser as I've only got 3lbs and it's discontinued. You might like it if you can get enough to make load development worthwhile, as you said.

You are right about that. I have used it in one of my .30/30's. I do not shoot them much as I prefer hunting with the .308's. I keep the .30/30's in case the Buffoons in Charge ever ban AR's. I will add 3031 to the "must buy" list. Works with cast and jacketed.
