Ruger American Rifle Centerfire single round feed

What a pain trying to single feed a round in the RARC .243Win!

"Ragged Hole" used to offer a separate single feed mag replacement, but looks like they're out of business.

Anyone have a line on an alternative single feed mag, or single feed follower to add to the existing Ruger mag?

Yours will not feed well with single feed? I have a few and the barrel shank is dead flat making this annoying. But I learn to get the nose in the barrel and it closes up fine fr
Me. Just a touch a practice and its non issue for me now.

I dont know how much difference a single loading tray would be...

It's a PITA to line up the cartridge with the chamber, worse yet with hollow points. With or without the mag installed, too. That "Ragged Hole" single feed mag was the cat's meow.

I just needed to get off my butt and make a follower.

A piece of dowel cut to length, sand the top of one end down at an angle so that its end goes below the mag top so that the bolt won't pick it up. The rest of the 7/16" dowel is left rounded to elevate the cartridge nose for guiding into the chamber. I coated the dowel with CYA super glue to seal the wood. Works fine. Easy peasy.

    Are yours the old rotary??

You can try disassembling and adding a rotation to the pre load. I have 5/6 of them running perfectly now.

I would think some enterprising person could 3-D print a follower or even a single shot magazine. I picked up a single shot enbloc clip for a Carcano on flea-bay earlier that worked great in my Carcano.

I see folks finding "projects" to justify 3D printers when something simple like rfd came up with works and costs less than a $1. Paint the wood dowel black and it will look like plastic. Of course if you have to buy black paint the price skyrockets...

    BTW, good solution rfd!

What I used was an appropriate sized piece of PVC pipe. Never fails to work (as of yet). I try to remember "never say never".

Not having one of these rifles, I was thinking about using a stripper clip as a one round at a time feeding device.

Gunner, that's how I do it. Works fine in a .223, & 7.62 x 39. Have a bunch of 5,56 strippers. & 1 odd one from the sks I had. Now if the 300 blk would just show up, I would be a happy camper.
