A magnitude 8.2 earthquake has been recorded off the coast of Alaska, according to preliminary data from the USGS.

The extremely strong quake is about 56 miles southeast of the town of Perryville. It struck around 10:15 p.m. local time, according to USGS data.

There have been at least two strong aftershocks, including a preliminary magnitude 6.2 and magnitude 5.6, the USGS reports.

A tsunami warning has been issued for portions of Alaska, according to the U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center. Hawai'i is also under a tsunami watch, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. The PTWC is investigating if there is a tsunami threat to the state. It predicts that if tsunami waves impact Hawai'i, the estimated earliest arrival of the first wave is 12:53 a.m. local time on Thursday.

A tsunami threat is being evaluated for the California, but so far there is not one at this time.

There are currently no reports of any damage or injuries.
