Pictured below is an 8mm, plain-base Rapine mold that its designer says reproduces the Pope style of bullet.
The mold casts beautifully. I am shooting soft cast bullets at low velocity for plinking in a .32 Winchester Special lever rifle.
The base band on this bullet is very narrow, and I'm wondering if I stand to gain anything by eliminating the bottom grease groove so as to have a much wider base band.
What are your thoughts on this? Other plain-base bullets in this caliber and of this design have relatively wide base bands.
