finely got time to make a 100# batch of #2 alloy

Been wanting to make a large batch of #2 alloy for casting rifle bullets for over a year now. Finely found the time today and did up a 100# batch of #2 alloy.

Figured why I was at it I did up 200#'s+of range scrap lead/hill pickins ingots.

I've been doing small batches of 18#/20# at a time of 14bhn (91/4.5/4.5) or 2# alloy when casting rifle bullets. Everything is measured but I've been wanting to try a larger more consistent batch of alloy that I can cast for several months and 10/15 different bullets with. Don't know how much difference it will make but I'm about to find out.

The 200# of range lead will keep the pistols & revolvers fed next year.

Time to fire up the molds and see what the #2 alloy can do.

Yup, time to quit playing around and using the same alloy is a good place to start. I ordered a couple 1000 hornady copper gc's and want to do head to head testing with my:

The range scrap alloy is no big deal, some years I push and get +/- 1000# of ingots. I typically only put that kind of effort into that amount of lead when I want something & sell the ingots off to pay for what I want.

That 200# of range scrap won't last long feeding the 1911's

I like to cast up at least 50-100# at once of any alloy I plan to use routinely. I also make a point to mix up the ingots (early in session vs late in session) to insure that any minor variations will average out. Looks to me like we took the same page out of the same guidebook, but you did me better by double! I predict some good quality bullets in your future!
