    Shooting quarters at 100 yds

I installed a new Arken scope and finally got to the range on Sunday to sight-in and test it. Incredible glass and I was quickly confident enough in the scope to tape some quarters up:

The rifle is a Savage 10T in .308 - 24" 1:10 barrel. Ammo was FC brass, Win primer, 44.1gr Varget under a 175gr SMK.

I'm pleased - for $449, this scope was an incredible buy. New company based in Texas, established by an ex-SEAL - many respected shooters are saying that this compares to optics 3 times the price in terms of clarity, repeatability and accuracy of tracking.

Oh yes - I'd also taken a young close-protection guy with me to give him some pointers and a little decent time behind a long-gun. He was thrilled to take home his 3 shot-up quarters, so I think I'll do more of that in the future; it's super fun and inspiring to do.

    .

    You've been a baaaad boy !

If you're convicted of defacing U.S. bills or coins, you can face fines, jail time, or both.

For bills, the maximum fine is $100 and the maximum jail sentence is six months.

For coins, the jail sentence can be up to five years.

However, to be convicted, you must have the intent to defraud someone...……………….
Now I lay me down to sleep
A gun beside me is what I keep
If I awake, and you're inside
The coroner's van is your next ride

I've got one on a curio shelf from the first .17HMR I sighted in for a neighbor when the cartridge was introduced. Statute of limitations hopefully extends to all the coinage that I let trains reshape by leaving them on the tracks......
That's a serious set up rifle you have there.

Add 25 cents to the cost of those reloads. What a high-roller. jd
It seems that people who do almost nothing, often complain loudly when it's time to do it.

Which model is that? I looked at them a couple of months ago.

    May have to revisit.

I have generally just used a coin to draw a circle around on the target , I keep the coin ......
At times shooting at a buddy's range he will shoot at pennies , the joke is , but can you pull off a head shot on the coin .

I have a quarter I used as a target, when being taught instinctive shooting while in basic training. We were using bb guns, and started out using 4" discs tossed in the air. Then we moved to 2" discs. It got boring, so I pulled a quarter out om my pocket and tossed it to my buddy. Actually hit it a few times, which was surprising to me being cross dominant.

Guess I am truly what others ribbed me about years ago "So tight that he will squeeze the excrement out of a buffalo nickel". I also had a guy I knew play a trick on me where he crazy glued a dime and a penny on a rail in the tech area we worked in. I tried to pick it up and it was glued down - he burst out with a belly rolling laugh spell - meanwhile I had gone over to the tool chest and picked up a big screw driver that I used to pop the dime and penny off the rail, which I then pocketed. He quit laughing.

Back many years ago when I was attached to the US State Department; we used to practice at 25 yards and even 50 yards with our issue 2 inch Smith & Wesson Model 36 (Chiefs Special) 38 special's using military 38 ball. Our targets were 12 gauge shotgun shells. Back then I was able to always hit 4 out of 5 and at times 5 of 5 (Much better eyes, physical conditioning, and muscle control back then compared to now). Moving to 50 yards was a "LOT TOUGHER" on a 2 Gauge shell casing.

Last time i shot with the Indian Hammock bunch we shot aspirins. I had 7 in a row and on the 8th hit a nail in the fence that the page was stapled to and knocked off about half of the rest of the card. They did not want to play any more. They guys with BR rifles both had shot over 20 in a row with out a miss.

    I have a 25 cent key fob. Made it at 200 yards with a 60 grain V-MAX.

    Awesome!

I love that this is getting a little competitive - we should start a new thread like "What's the farthest distance you can hit a quarter?"

I might need to drag the 722 in .222 out. I'm not as steady as I used to be and can't see as well as I used to but for an old garage gun that I inherited it sure shoots. It's got a cheap scope on see through rings. My last 5 5 shot ladder loads all worked well. The worst one was 5/8".
