    New to me from NOE

Just received a new 44 cal 280 gr pb SWC mold today from NOE. My plan is to have a heavy bullet at about 1100 to 1200 fps from my Ruger Redhawk revolver. Use would be for ranges up to 50 yds. Looking for a deep perpetrator without excessive recoil. Attachment 286706 Over the next few days I will cast some up out of my scrap WW. Will see how it goes.

Yep, tried that. Keep a good watch on your middle finger on your shooting hand. I used to shoot 320 grain boolits from my .44 magnum 4" barreled Ruger Redhawk. The gun started as a 7 1/2" barrel but I paid a good gunsmith to cut it back and install a new front sight.

The middle finger is often ignored when shooting magnum revolvers but it gets slugged by the trigger guard with every shot. After a range session I found mine would be bruised and the skin compressed. Now, 30 years later it acts up when the weather changes. And you should see how crooked my trigger finger is. Arthritis.

Got some bullets cast up today from this NOE 44 mold. Had a heck of a time getting bullets to cast cleanly. I know I cast a good 70 bullets before they started coming out well formed. Anyway once they started casting sharp well formed bullets they came out like popcorn. Went thru 10 lbs of WW in no time.Bullets are now PC, sized & ready to load. Sized .430 @ 280grs. Now just a matter of coming up with a load of abou 1100 fps from my Ruger Redhawk revolver.Attachment 286756

What are you going g to shoot with them? A 250 SWC will go through a deer from any angle up to 200 yards when loaded over 18 grains of 2400. This is without killing the middle finger.

I understand exactly. I'm looking for a heavy bullet ( less than 300gr ) for the possibility of an encounter with a large bear. When I'
m out on the property doing what ever I'm always seeing wild life. I'm on my own at these times. Since there are an abundance of bear hear , looking for close range penetration. I also have a 44mag rifle I can use the bullet in, if I ever wish to. But primary use will be for the Redhawk. This is not a load that I will be shooting just for plinking. It would be limited only for serious use. At around 1100 fps in the 7 1/2" Redhawk, ought to be manageable. This is a heavy revolver. Will let you know in a day or so after I figure out a load. Am hoping for a load with Unique, if not i can go with 2400.

Did some research & came up with some loads using HS-6 & the 280gr bullet. Using CCI standard LP primers. NOE Keith style 280 SWC, BHN 10.5, sized .430, 12grs gave me 1069 fps. 12.5 grs HS-6 was 1090 fps. I was looking for 1100 fps , so this is where I will stay. No knuckle , finger busting in my 7 1/2" Redhawk. Very manageable, & super accurate. Dead on at 25yds in my revolver. Loading info went up to 13grs of the HS-6, but I was delighted with the 12.5grs. See no need to change. Bore stayed clean with the PC bullets.
