I have a Henry single shot. It's not a .45-70. It's a .357 MAX rechambered from a .357 Mag. It's a beautiful rifle. Henry produces good wood and a good finish. Two things:

    1. The trigger needed work. Don't put a weaker hammer spring in it. Find a gunsmith who can help the trigger without weakening the spring. I used David White in Oklahoma. He did a great job.

    2. If you take the barrel off be aware it is a more complicated job than most break action single shot rifles. Take your time.

Play with the seating depth of your boolits. My .44 Ss has a long throat and shoots best with the boolits kissing the lands. 45-70 = big knockdown power in a handy package.

I would like to see a 1-18 twist... the 1-20 should be fine if your sticking to shorter bullets. not sure of your intentions with the rifle.

Mine has a short throat, but shoots anything well with peep sights and a Lyman 17 up front and went thru the trigger myself. Breaks clean at #3. I have shot several 405s with mine, light and heavy loaded, shoots them very well.

I'd like to see a rolling block, or falling block single shot from them. jd
It seems that people who do almost nothing, often complain loudly when it's time to do it.

I have a Henry Single Shot in 357mag and it's my favorite rifle. If you get one, make sure you get Henry to perform the recall work on it, my trigger is FAR better after they did that.

Can recommend Skinner Sights as well.
