I don't know where to post this one. Is there a site or thread on here that speaks to bad Winchester SP primers?
I have two lots of Winchester primers that I have used over the last two years.
All of a sudden I am getting 4-5% of Winchester primers that are failing to ignite. This is happening in .38 Special and 9MM.
I don't know and did not segregate by reloading by primer lots. I had 3000 of one lot and reloaded about 1800 .38 Specials plus other ammo. At some point I ran out and loaded from another lot, both .38 and 9MM.
Today out of 80 rounds I had 4 bad primers. I have inspected the firearms and do not suspect a problem with them. The firing pin is certainly striking the primer hard enough to fire it off.
3K were bought from a local supplier and another case of 5K were bought in 2016 at Camp Perry. In my ownership they have been stored in my house climate controlled.
I have written Winchester and given them lot numbers. Does anyone remember a discussion about bad Winchester SP primers.
In forty+ years of competitive shooting, I have experienced 2 bad primers. Within the last month I have had at least 20 rounds that did not go off.
