6.5x55 Swedish cartridge with C.A. headstamp

These were sold commercially in the U.S. in the 1980s. The C.A. stands for Century Arms which was the very large firearms importer in St.Albans, Vermont. These cartridges were loaded by Norma of Sweden with a 140 grain soft point bullet. The NP on the primer is for Norma Precision and are typical of Norma manufacture. (not all Norma ammo have the NP on the primer).

You will also find that the cartridge head size is 0.476" and not 0.472" of most manufacturers like PMC, Rem etc. I actually get my best grouping using military brass and berdan primers.

You can feel the swelling in the brass case leading to head separation after just one shot!

Still have some of the Norma/Century Arms 6.5x55 ammo around here. Complete with the NP on the primer. Federal also imported Norma 6.5x55 ammo with a brass colored 140 grain bullet. Federal/Norma ammo was sold under the American Eagle brand but in a white box with black lettering. 7.62x54r and 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser. Don't remember if any other calibers were sold in the white box. Frank

Very good ammo, I've come across berdan and boxer primed.

The bullets were nickel plated or steel jacket ( silver color), right?

Brass colored j-thingys.
I know the ones you mean they were 156 gr soft points. They were Norma and one other brand, berdan primed and came in 50 rd boxes.
I still have one box of each of the 156gr they were very common and imported for the sealing fishery post WW2.

Leebuilder, mine are 140 grain brass colored FMJ's, and the box on the right is what I was referring to. That stuff by Norma as sold by Federal is quite accurate out of my Swedes. The Century Arms stuff is also good. Frank
