    Kibler Colonial Rifle

Just finished this 58 caliber kit from Jim Kibler. Really had fun with it. My first build and first attempt at carving.

LIBEERTY is for my ancestor Moses who fought in the 26th Continental Infantry during the Revolutionary War.

It Looks like you did a great Job on it. I really like the early style and round face English lock.

Received it in February, finished July. I was still working then, retired for the second time in May.
These kits could be done in a week or so if you had the time. I wanted some carving and practiced it until I thought it would work. Wasn't in a hurry finishing it as well.

Jim Kibler has excellent videos on youtube explaining the process.

One trip to the farm so far to shoot it. It is 90+ degrees and high humidity, sweating like crazy just loading the truck to go.
Fired 10 shots, all were low to the right at 35 yards. Cleaned the rifle and filed the front sight a little, drifted the rear. Will try again a couple days.

I have a Jaeger barrel, 62 cal. 31" long. Been reading about the Revolutionary War and the German soldiers that used these. Probably going to do one. I have some black walnut my father cut/milled 20 years ago from a tree on the place I grew up.

Nicely done! I had Jim send me a .58 in a cherry stock version.

    That is really nice.

Was the kit as easy to put together as I have read? I have seen that there is very little fitting that needs to be done. And that all of the dove tails for sights and barrel lugs are already done.

Yes, it went together easily. Some fitting of the wood parts not hard at all. Barrel lugs and sight dovetails are already done.

Wait until you are sure you have the most accurate load before filing the sights much.
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!

You certainly did a fantastic job on it! You can be very proud of your work and I love the "LIBERTY" and the reason for it! Thanks for sharing and we want to here how it shoots!

I have assembled those in 3-4 hrs. I teach a Kibler kit assembly class at Friendship a couple times a year and all the students usually have their guns done in 5 days. Some times we have a guy finished in 3 days. I find the Colonial easier to do than the Southern Mtn. rifle, but they are both easy. High quality stuff all the way.
