The one rifle you will never sell and why.

Took a ride on the bike last week, ended up in a hole-in-the-wall bar chatting with another old guy.

Got talking guns. Surprise!

He talked about the only gun he owned that he would NEVER sell.

AK-47 that he brought back from Vietnam. Sent all the hardware back piece or two at a time. Brought the bare stock back with him. Apparently they didn't think an AK-47 wooden club was much of a threat.

He said he took it from the guy who was charging him while firing the AK. He took it after he hit the guy with 3 rounds to get him to stop charging.

I think I'd keep it too.

Mine is a Long Branch SMLE.

It was given to me by a good friend, it was his first deer rifle back in the 60's. His dad bought it for almost nothing. It was a poorly sporterized SMLE. Poorly is being stunningly polite. If I actually used the language required to describe it, it would probably fry the processor in my laptop.

I returned it to almost original condition, showed it to John, he couldn't believe that it could be brought back that close to original.

And it's a hoot to shoot with cast.

Lost him to a heart attack about 6 months later at way too young and age.

That one will be around until it's up to my daughter to get rid of my dead guy stuff.

I suspect she'll keep it too. She thought John was a pretty special guy too.

Not a rifle. But my Mossberg 20 ga pump with select choke. My father bought it for me the day i took my hunter safely course. I still hunt with it.

my Remington 1100, grandfather gave it to me when I passed a hunter safety course at 15.

My great, great, great grandfather's 1886 Winchester in 45-90. It took me 15 years to track it down, I won't be parting with that one.

I have several that I will own until I die but two that I got from my dad when he passed. A 1917 Enfield and an early M8 Rem in 35. Both have interesting stories and will be passed to my sons with the stories.

When I got married the 2nd time in 2002, it was a 1st year anniversary present from the new wife.
And the Remington 700 my Mom gave me in December of 1980 as a early Christmas present when I got out of the Service.

I have two from Dad and they'll go to my sons, probably before long. I believe the one I bought that I'll never part with is an E. Goldmann in Erfurt, German double rifle in 11.15 X 60R. Why? Because it was my first double rifle and it taught me a LOT about handloading. When I bought it some 25+ years ago I thought I was a pretty good handloader. Ha. You have a lot to learn to get a double rifle to regulate when there's no data for an 1870's, foreign double.

I've had my Brno ZK465 since I purchased second hand in 1969. The date of manufacture is 1948 so it was 21 years old when I bought it for $45.00. It is fitted with a Kahles 6X bought new with my second pay packet for $76.00.

So I have hunted with this rifle for over 50years and never ceased to be amazed how it performs above its level. Don't know how many rounds that I have put through it but I would think 10,000+. I recently bought a new factory barrel (dated 1953) so it will continue to be used for many years to come.

I have only the ones I wont trade or sell now and they wont be sold they're all spoken for by my nephews and niece (the last time she was home from coast gaurd she picked out a pair of ruger mark 2's target models, and a 45-70 stainless ruger #1, girls got good taste)

I have 3 that are here to stay.
1. Winchester 1890 22WRF. Made in 1917, it is a second model. My great grandfather bought it for my grandfather as his first rifle.
2. Two Remington 1100's, both in 12 gauge, bought new by my grandfather.
3. Winchester Model 70 270 Winchester. First centerfire rifle, gifted by my parents for Christmas 2002. It is a Shadow model in a black synthetic stock. I took my first deer with it this last year.

The first gun I ever owned. It was a present for my 12th birthday in 1963. .22 bolt action, single shot. It was not new. I have no idea of just how old it is.

A primo condition .303 Savage Model 1899-H Lightweight Carbine (ca.1914) with a 20" fast taper bbl, that my wife bought & gifted to me (no better reason than that to keep it )

The ballistics are identical to the .30-30, but it will also handle 190gr boolits.

It's very accurate, and handy to boot.

The first high powered rifle I ever shot, and years later, given to me by my dad a year before he died. Savage 110, 30-06, #71 manufactured 1957 which is year I was born.
