Nothing Like A Hole-N-one Egg Sandwich!

The classic hole in one is I guess two pieces of white bread use a small juice glass to cut centers out, stack the bread slices in a skillet, crack an egg in the middle and flip it a few times until done.

My favorite egg sandwich is two slices of multi grain bread, like Dave's Good Seed, with DUKE'S mayo, salt & pepper, melted cheddar cheese, and a soft cooked egg, (yolk broken and spread out but not cooked hard). So I wanted to come up with something that was a little of both.

Butter two slices of Daves's bread and place in iron skillet on low heat. Cut centers out with small juice glass, line the outer edges of one side with cheddar cheese, brown until cheese softens and assemble both sides into basically a grilled cheese with a hole in it. When the bread begins to brown crack an egg into the center and cook, turning as necessary until the yolk is almost solid then serve!

Now I gotta find a way to sneak some BACON in there!

I have never made it like this. I just put two fried eggs on any fresh bread I have salt and pepper. A nice quick snack or supper

The Cub / Boy Scouts always referred to them as a "Toad in a Hole" ... haven't thought of that dish in 25 years . My Scout son would cook them for us on the camping trips ...

Toad in the hole here. I used to have an old customer that anytime I worked on an appliance or HVAC for her she always gave me a loaf of fresh baked bread. It was the best bread for making it. I wish I would have gotten the recipe.

Simply Egg in the Hole for us… try it with some rye marbled rye or sourdough bread

Of course the kids look at me funny when I have grits or scrapple, and the wife won’t let Spam in the house…

It looks like a variation of what we called "Eggs in a Basket" as kids growing up. We used to sneak into the kitchen at summer camp in the middle of the night to make them. This brought back some memories!

That’s similar to the One-Eyed Texans Mom used to make when I was a kid. I think she drizzled balsamic vinegar over them. Very tasty!

Oh man, my mother used to make these for me and my little brother. Butter both sides of the bread, cut out the hole, throw in egg and toast the middles on the side! (Now I'm hungry).

My mother called them Egg with a hole in the Middle. We still make them, occasionally. Using, one slice of thick sliced bakery French bread.

That egg needs a bacon beard and long hair.

I was forced to make a couple for breakfast. Been a long time. They were as good as I remembered.

Never heard of that either. I make a normal bacon, egg, and cheese (pepper jack). Basically a novelty type thing?

A different way to prepare the same ingredients. Variety is the spice of life.
