    195 years ago today.

John Adams passed away with the famous last words "Jefferson survives." while not knowing that Thomas Jefferson also passed away on the same day.
What are the odds that we lost 2 of the greatest founding fathers on the same day as the signing of the declaration of independence. I know that it wasn't signed by everyone on the same day, but July 4th gets credit.

Don't forget Madison too the bill of rights was due largely in part to his input.

I think of it a “Devine Message”! While they were only men, God recognized their good intentions in the documents written to help form the greatest nation that ever existed. Perhaps their passing on the same day was a sign from God that He approved of their efforts and dedication! A nation created not for themselves, but for many future generations. May we not let the dream die, we need to preserve it for many more generations. memtb

Were these mere men who had a message God approved of or were they "Prophets" building what God had described to them? I think they both died the same day because their work was done.

James Madison was the father of the BOR. Without his efforts, the constitution would never have been ratified by the colonies.

Several years back, HBO made a period correct documentary about John Adams. It portrayed him as the irascible person that he was. He and Jefferson had a falling out along the way but after the death of Abigail, they started to regularly correspond again. The founding fathers, all faults included, hold a place of honor and due reverence in our household.

Never in the course of human history, did a group of men convene together and form a new nation such as ours. They were statesmen, not greedy politicians, who thought beyond self interest, and wrote the Declaration of Independence. They were all hunted by the British, some were captured or their families paid a dear price. Many died broke, their homes burned & ransacked by British troops.

It would be an insult to compare our founding fathers to the greedy politicians that run this country today. (There are a very few rare exceptions.) Never again will such a group gather together to form a better country.

I always think.of.Churchills words during US Holidays.

"Never in the course of human history has so much been owed by so many to so few".

It was later changed to "Never in the field of human conflict was so much been owed by so many to so few" because people were upset it inferred Jesus did less.

It gets in my gizzard when someone like AOC thinks so little of the US Constitution and thinks she has the answers. AOC could not hold a candle for the founding fathers.

While it was only a musical, not a history lesson, we watch 1776 in our house every 4th of July. They were only men who all had feet of clay, but they *eventually* pulled together enough to produce and sign the Declaration of Independence. It wasn't a perfect document, but it got the job done. We've been going at it hammer and tongs ever since, pretty much the way they thought would happen. Even with a well crafted Constitution and attendant Bill of Rights government has always been - and likely always will be - a messy business.
