The new nickel plated lead 22lr bullets

There are a couple new videos out about new nickel plated 22lr bullets. One is "Winchester Silver Tip." The other is "Federal Punch". I am trying to figure out if these are electroplated or is there some new method of plating lead. Either way, it seems to me that they could be a more economical way for manfacturers to make pistol bullets of practically any caliber. Is this the next new thing in the ammo world? Any insights are welcome.

Being totally unfamiliar with the subject's real world impact, my first instinct is -- MARKETING.

They should concentrate on making more of their regular .22 instead of fooling around coming up with new stuff that nobody wants.

Velicotor specifies a copper-plated bullet, Winchester doesn't say and Federal specifies nickel - which kinda turns me off because that's tough stuff. It makes for clean handling but I'm not crazy about driving it down a bore.

They must figure it's easy to fool somebody who starts off with the .22 autoloader as a defensive option.

nickel plating works well for shotgun shot, my first time even seeing it for 22's
