I have a .457 Texan and am having problems getting any good groups. Have any of you done well with a certain mould?

when doing research for casting on the Texan the RCBS 45-300 was mentioned many times as a good texan mold
Mine loves the 45-300 RCBS 98% pure lead 2% tin and powdercoated
Also likes the NOE 460 350 HP 98% pure lead 2% tin and powdercoated
From all the posts on the 457 and hand cast bullets the sweet spot seems to be in the 300 to 375 gr range with some having luck with 405's
after installing a mad dog stock my groups improved a good bit. I attribute it to the weak spot in the texan frame. There is flex if you hold the grip and turn the powder ring on your scope pay attention and you can see the frame flex. the Maddog stock solved much of that issue

you posted this under air guns
Most of the tanks are gone and the windows don't rattle anymore. I won't be able to sleep now.
eeeeeeeeeee gads 350gr air rifle
Thanks Smoke! I just ordered a maddog stock for just that reason. I’ve been powdercoating all of my cast bullets (your powder). Have you noticed any difference in accuracy between pc and non pc?
I have a NOE 460-315 mold that depending on my lead mix drops between 280gr to 290gr that shoot great 2 shots almost touching at 100yards, I just coated some of them with Smokes PC coating and haven't had time to try them out in the Texan to see if they shoot better than I regular cast boolits. Here's a couple of before and after PC

you will see less of a velocity increase with PC in most airguns because the rifling is much shallower that reg firearms.
I am seeing 1/2 to 1% speed increase in a 30cal FX Maverick and about 1% in the Texan.
Accuracy tends to be a little better but not massive difference. The one thing you definitely gain is no leading and this is an issue with the Texan and any airgun getting near or over 1000 FPS.
one customer had fouled his barrel so bad it looked like a sewer pipe. Accuracy had totally gone away in less than 200 rds. Now with PC that is no longer an issue

Lets get back to zero!
Is your bore squeaky clean?
Most of the airgun "wisdom" is to shoot nonlubed bullets and every so often fight leading.
If you use proper lubing then you are in the no leading zone (ie golden) for ever. I have a 44MAG shooting lead (1750fps) that has past 4500 shots and is squeky clean!
A leaded bore needs scrubbing a lot before it is clean again.
From there on you lube as you like (50 cal. Texan i lube all grooves with my own blend) but please use enough!
The bare lead rubbing against bare steel philophoy is stupid!
I don't own a Texan but I did used own a Samyang in 45 caliber that shot the 200 grain Lyman Devastators real well. At the time I was looking into buying a big bore the big bore Texan had not come out yet.
HollowPoint
What's the reason you no longer have the Samyang?
An update. Looks like I had a clipping issue caused by a loose barrel (from factory). Getting replacement parts and a Maddog stock. Hopefully this will give me some significant improvement! Thanks for the info Smoke, my bore is clean and I’m powdercoating all my boolits.
