    Turned Brass 12 ga Shells

A couple months ago I bought 9 turned brass 12 ga shotgun shells from a guy who bought them at a gunshow. He said the original box was 10 but one got lost somewhere along the way. No head stamp and they take 209 primers.

Since my computer search skills are minimal (I haven't had any luck so far) I was wondering if any of the knowledgeable folks here know who made these things and if they are still doing so. I imagine they must be expensive as it seems like about the hardest way possible to make a brass shotgun shell. Still, since I have bags of the necessary 12 ga wads needed to load BP and have successfully done so, I wouldn't mind having a few more of them.

Any help finding the source of these things will be greatly appreciated.

I got mine from Rocky Mountain Cartridge. They aren't cheap but are lathe turned works of art that should last several lifetimes. You can purchase as few as 10 (1 box) at the time. http://rockymountaincartridge.com/products.htm

These are suitable for BP or smokeless loads and have the same internal dimensions as plastic hulls, so they accept normal 12 ga components, including 209 primers. I was so impressed at their heft and quality, I ordered from them twice, and shipping took far less time than was quoted.

If you are looking to load BP exclusively, you can get much cheaper (and thinner) drawn brass cases made by Magtech in South America from several of the mail order houses. These are a little over a buck apiece and are made to use large pistol primers. Since they are much thinner than plastic or lathe turned brass, you need to use 10 or 11 gauge components.

I do not like turned brass. First of all the case capacity is significantly reduced from drawn brass, it splits a lot easier and I've had several case head separations with it, using even BP. Get the Mag-Tech drawn brass and be done with it. My 16 bore Mag Tech brass has....a lot of loads through it.
