    IMR 7383 in 338 Lapua??

So, reading on the Bartlett website that their IMR 7383 is roughly similar to 4831 powder, I quickly (and cluelessly) ordered no less than 3 jugs of it to reload for my new 338 Lapua Magnum. (Grab it while ya can right?)

Well, come to find out, IMR 7383 is kinda tricky, plus I can't find any info on it for 338 Lapua, though it should work for that.

Anyone have experience that can help?

Note: I did write to Jeff; no help on 338 Lapua there, and I know what they say about using IMR 4831 data less 15%. Looking for someone that's used it in 338 Lapua...

    Thanks!

7383 was designed to burn at a cartridge with 38,000 CUP. It works best if kept about that. i have no idea where they came up with 4831 from.

Perhaps you will find this useful noting that as IMR 7383 is a high energy, highly volatile triple base propellant with military flash-suppressant characteristics we are unlikely to see it ever offered retail or reloading data from/vouched for/liable IMR/Hodgdon:

"I went out today and loaded up some IMR 7383 for my savage 111 in .338 lapua.
    I started out with 70 gr. , 75 gr, 80 gr.
    Using a 225 gr. bullet.
    The 70gr. seemed light.
75 gr. good and the 80 gr was great.
There was no signs of over pressuring what so ever. I think I am going to just load 75 grs for now.
I was shooting at a rock target at 400 yards with the 75 gr loads with more than enough smacking power then I will ever need. "

338 Lapua re-loaders could also consider currently available/affordable St Marks manufacture spherical WC-867 with (2) 8 lb jugs--16 lbs total--typically selling for less than 2 Benjamins over at G'Broker noting that Bartletts sells them for $50/8 LB jug when in stock.

WC 867 is line number 512 (20 up from the bottom--532 total lines) in this burn rate chart under General Dynamics/St Marks entries (just right of the chart-center)

Wow! Thanks a bunch for taking the time to post those links!! Very nice of you! I had been to most of them, but the couple three I hadn't were interesting.

    Thanks again

Ive used WC872 in my 338 and it was the most accurate 100yd group ive ever shot in the rifle with some Sierra hunting bullets. With the expense of owning, shooting, and loading for a 338Lapua i would get a powder that is at least in the ball park.
