I will be there this year for the National Trophy Rifle Matches. President's Rifle Trophy, National Trophy Individual, Hearst Doubles, National Team Trophy, Modern Military Rifle, and the John C Garand Match. I would like to shoot the Infantry Team (Rattle Battle) Match one day.

    Congratulations!!
For those of us who are unfamiliar, could you explain the course of fire and criteria to earn that distinction?
I have always wanted to go.

    Thanks!

YEs, the Pres 100 is quite a match.
Congrats to Rev Recoil on that 289-8X in the Pres match
    I shot it for years.
Made it in 1991--- a lower score, but

    with an M1A/iron sights.

I made the cut once also. It is surprisingly hard to make it. It sounds easy until you shoot the match! A score of 285 5x is about where the cut is. There will be 50 or more people at every score below that, with different X counts, which is part of what makes it hard. Drop one point and drop 50 placings. You are also competing against everyone on the line, many of which are Distinguished.

As for the match, there are three stages for most people.
    Standing 200 yds - 10 shots in 10 min

Prone rapid - 300 yds - 10 shots in either 60 or 70 seconds, I don’t remember which. Includes a magazine change. AR type rifles normally shoot 2 in the first mag and then 8 in the second.

    Prone slow - 600yds - 10 shots in 10 min. Single loading.

There is a shoot off for the top 20 or so guys after the main match ends. They shoot another 10 shots at 600yds.

The top 100 scores make the cut. There are commonly around 1100-1400 shooters in the match. There were 837 shooters this year and the cut was 287-8X.

Then what really toughens it up is no sighting shots. you have to know your zeros and read the wind

Last week I competed in the National Trophy Rifle Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio. The premier match is the President’s Rifle Trophy which was founded by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1903 through the National Board for the Promotion of Rifle Practice. The course of fire is ten shots slow fire in the standing position at 200 yd, ten shots rapid fire in the prone position at 300 yd, and ten shots slow fire in the prone position at 600 yd. All firing is with the US service rifle and can only be supported in prone position with the leather sling. The top 100 scoring competitors receive a fine medal and are authorized to wear the PRESIDENTS HUNDRED tab in military service.

The competition for the President’s Hundred medal is fierce. Eighty of the hundred that made the cutoff this year received the President’s Hundred medal last year. That means only about twenty new shooters make the cut each year. This match is similar to a 100 meter sprint. With on thirty shots fired, there is no way to make up for a bad shot.

I came close several times before but August 2, 2021 was my day with a score of 289-8X. I place 69th out of 848 entries. I have no idea of how that last shot at 600 yd was a seven. This old man can still shoot with the best of them.

Now that we know the course of fire, and how difficult it is to accomplish what you did, it's even more amazing - congratulations again!!!

another kicker that made them more difficult was the cmp/dcm matches were shot with issue ammo. LC m852 for 308 and LC XXX in 30-06. Leg matches, presidents NTI rattle battle. Not sure if they still are or not.
