    There is an outfit Victor Machinery, www.victornet.com that carries tap/dies for many non-standard threads. I have 5/16-22 for the Savage 99 stock bolt, they do list 1/4-22 taps and dies at relatively low cost. They carry many many odd taps/dies useful when working on older firearms and other stuff built before SAE and other standards were established. With the right tap/die you can make or modify existing stock bolts to what you want.

    Say, since they are whitworth maybe a vintage British car or motorcycle shop can help you out. The older machines were whitworth.
