    The current state of affairs

I stopped into my favorite LGS today just looking, I pick up a bargain bin NOS .243 copper bore brush for $1. And low and behold a brand new)5 shot Tikka T3 magazine for $32.95.( rare and usually costlier). No powder, got plenty of bullets, no primers or .22 shells...
Just Heritage, Glock, and Kimber on up in the handguns.
Gazing upon the rifles for a second, I remarked to the manager-" did you ever think there would be a time when the best looking rifle on the rack would be a Mossberg??"
We both laughed but that blued steel and walnut rifle looked great against the black and plastic and digital camo bronze A bolts and Savages and AR15.
If I needed another bolt rifle it would be worth a look perhaps!

I too was in the market for another rifle and looked at the Mossberg. It seemed to be a fair rifle for the money invested, but like most low end rifles today, I just couldn’t convince myself to spring for it.

Ended up sending one of my 30-06 Mausers to Douglas for a rebarrel. Feel like I have a much better rifle now.

I have a few very nice rifles. But in the end they are tools. My T/C Compass will outshoot my pretty M70 and at a fraction of the cost. And I do not care if it gets dinged up.

I stopped in at my LGS Tuesday for the 1st time a couple months. Things look like they are turning around. The handgun cases that were almost empty my last visit had a decent selection of Smiths, CZs, Glocks etc.. Although they weren't crammed full like the "old days". The prices were decent. Maybe up a little for inflation.

The racks of new rifles were full again. A pretty good selection over all. They had 5 or 6 Cascade rifles from CVA. I took one down and looked it over. It looked like a very nice rifle for it's price range - $600. The used racks had very little in them. Too bad. I like looking for gems in the old guns. I've found a few.

The powder situation has always been good in that store but there were no primers or brass and only 2 sets of reloading dies. I did buy a pound of Tite Group. It was $26.95.

They are getting some ammunition in but some of it has limits of 2 boxes per customer. Last. visit the shelves were empty except for a few shot shells.

I am encourage that the store has a lot more inventory than they had a couple months ago. If only they'd get some primers in.

Like many things built these days, artistry and eye appeal are not high on the list of objectives for manufacturers. I always remark how most cars look alike these days.

It does seem like we've turned the corner. We can only hope that continues to improve.

LGS Tues had 3 1#rs of pistol powder and a couple of rifle, no primers ( I did get the brick of SRP they promised a yr go but priced as expected - too much). few rifles, pistols and lots of ARs (used). NO AMMO.
    Whatever!

I was surprised at the number of AR's on the rack this week. Most were a bit expensive but they were there. Plenty of 9mm pistols. Not much selection of .38, .357 or .45acp pistols. Bunches of pistol bullets and ammo. Few rifle bullets.

When Mossberg came out with the rifle that used AR magazines I was hoping they would make a few in left hand . No such luck though My experience with their rifles has been very good and I would have liked to bought a lefty .

I have 7 Mossberg .22 RF rifles. Some have figured walnut stocks. All are stone reliable & more accurate than I'm able to hold.. I like them.

    If I come upon a 142, 142A, 152 or 152K at a fair price, I'll add to the group.

i went to my lgs the other to buy a hunting license. i found 1 lb of tite group and 2 lbs of alliant 410 and 1 or 2 bags of 300 wsm. there was no bullets or primers. rifle ammo was scarce, but there is 17hmr, 444, 45-70. pistol ammo is also a no go. shotgun ammo is expensive for a 5 round box, 25 rounds is a no go too.

he has many bolt action rifles, but no pumps, single shots or lever actions. the only semis he has are 5 ar type shotgun(12ga) and 2 5.56. he has many revolvers and semi pistols.

Mossberg has a motto, "More Gun for the Money." In the last few years I've come to believe it to be true. Seldom fancy, but usually tough as nails and reliable.

Maybe a year ago I bought a Model 464 lever action from a forum member in almost new condition. That's the one that is superficially a Win. '94, but really quite different. It's a very good rifle, as was an earlier lever, the Model 472 which looked very much like a Marlin, but only externally. If there's any criticism at all it's the plain grade of wood, but it's fitted well and is of good proportions.

"Stuff" is slowly returning to the shelves, and I doubt if the shortages will last much longer. I'm thinking before this time next year all will be normal again, albeit at somewhat elevated prices.

I picked up a NIB MVP 223 in deal several years ago, not a bad little rifle. Had to do something with the sloppy floppy magazine and fixed that situation really well and did not spend the hundred on aftermarket bottom. I have only shot Mil FMJ 55/62 through it but it was respectable.

Guns of all types are easy to find here, ammo not so much. AR's are collecting dust on the shelf, people are starting to shop for rimfires and bolt actions.

My normally expensive Tikka magazines now have reflective trailer tape (NAPA) in the indentations of the waffle pattern. It's bright in flashlight light.

To help in finding a dropped one, I assume? Great idea, there.
My favorite bolt action magazine type is the blind one like military Mausers, Remington 700 ADL, etc. The magazine never leaves the rifle and the cartridges can't get dumped out by accident.
But I love my Tikkas, too. I have 3 round and 5 round mags for both of mine.

I bought one those Mossberg MVP’s in .223 , terrible metal finish like the Russians did it. It shoots 62 grain bullets into a couple of inches at 200 yds and the magazine works fine with 5 rounders.
