    Hi-Tek Toaster Oven

I have a toaster oven that I used exclusively to cure Hi-Tek coated bullets. I bought it new about 5 years ago and it now has an issue. I plugged it in, turned it on and waited. The temperature stopped around 350 degrees but it didn’t reach the 400 degree mark so I turned the set point up ( a dial) waited and turned it up again. The setting is much higher than usual but it reached 400 degrees. I went to the store and got another thermometer but the issue is with the oven. I searched many places but couldn’t find a replacement temperature-relay (?) so now I have a new oven ordered and on the way.

The oven still looks new, functions, but because I cured the bullets in it would it be safe for someone to use it to prepare food?

Thanks in advance for your time and effort.

If it got to 400, why not continue to use it at the setting that gave you 400 deg ?

you can expect from your oven that pizza will be funny smelling, at least !

I believe I would just keep using it at the setting you gives you the temp. you want.

another option is to just bypass the thermostat that is built into the oven and run a PID controller.

Thanks for the responses. More to the story:
I had to keep monitoring and adjusting the temperature to maintain 400 degrees.

A PID would solve that (heat varriance) but ---- I wouldn't put money into a PID without a convection oven to put it on
