    Powder check die

Which one and why? I'm using a Lee 4 hole turret and a Little Dandy measure. I check every case and it slows down production. I have a extra hole.

    RCBS has:

POWDER CHECKER Model: 87590 -- This shows you how much powder is in the case.--You weigh the powder then set up the die/indicator to show you if you have the same amount of powder in the case as when you set it up. (I believe other brands make similar dies)

LOCK-OUT DIE Model: 87540 -- You weigh the powder and set the die to the powder height in the case. IF you have too much or too little powder in the case the die will lock up your press.

some people use a borescope mounted to the press looking into each freshly charged case and display the case on a tablet or laptop screen.

    I use the Lock-Out die.

It's too easy to look away from the checker and miss something.

Double alpha powder cop alarm. You can set it for however sensitive you want and gives you a nice loud steady beep if the charge is outside of those limits.

I use the Dillon it has a piezo buzzer to alert of a high or low charge. I test them and the low primer alarm before I begin loading. Like this.

I also use them on my automated machines (wired directly to the switch inside as a control the machine) and they will even detect tiny differences in internal case volume, with the charge spot on.

I haven’t tested any others that are this sensitive but they will still help you find squibs and double charges.

The RCBS Lock-Out die has caught the stepped 9mm cases for me. It will also catch any 380 cases that slip by.

In the link there is video you can click on that shows how to set it up.

It uses a funny battery size so I bought two spares. Still on the original battery over a year later. It's been on the press for about 20K rounds, mostly pistol ammo. There's a case activated limit switch that turns on the reed switch for the powder level. If the powder level is outside of the range you have the magnet and reed switch set to, a red light and loud beep sound will come on. So it goes off for high or low charges. There is a screw that moves the reed switch closer or further away from the magnet on the stem to make it more/less sensitive. If the cartridge is charged correctly then there is no beep or light and no drain on the battery. So I'm not sure how long the battery will go before it needs replaced. They picked a tone range that I can hear just fine with hearing damage from firearms and power equipment. Can't hear the alarm on my watch, the coffee maker, dog fence ect, but this is loud and clear. The only issue I've had with it has been a setup issue I caused by positioning the magnet too close to the Hornady auto powder drop on my powder measure. Easy enough to slightly rotate the powder measure away from the magnet so it stopped being attracted to the powder drop. Now I'm aware of it I check for it every time the powder measure is reset for a different cartridge.

Very happy and would buy it again.

I use the RCBS Lock Out Die on my LnL press. It works like a charm once it's set up for the charge you're dropping.

    Hope this helps.
