I wanted to try and make my own knife for as long as I can remember. Finally got around to it last year, and made two; one for my hunting buddy and one for myself (most of the job was done using CAD & a CNC mill, so knife #2 wasn't much extra work). The steel is Uddeholm's Elmax hardened to 60 HRC.
The plan was to have a pro make the sheaths, but I decided to give it a try myself and it was actually easier than I thought (although a professionel knife maker would probably chuckle if he saw the result). The belt loop is stitched to the backside of the sheath, keeping the knife riding high when worn on the right hip, and allowing you to sit down without the knife getting in the way.

I have used old files to make several blades they all hold an edge fairly well just keep em oiled and all is fine.
