Flaring/charging crushing cases

I’ve been loading for 5 years- same setup. Recently received 1k new star line .357 brass and the charging/flaring die is crushing 2-4 out of 50 cases. This same die has used way more pressure on 4-6 time fired brass and it’s never been an issue. Is it the die or the brass?

No cases are too long- they average 1.28

Have you beveled the inside of the case mouths?
The flaring plunger may be getting hung up on the brass.

Several people have said that new Starline brass is so clean that it is “more sticky” than once fired no tumbled brass, which can lead to problems on the first loading. You might try tumbling some of the brass for an hour to see if that fixes the problem.

I agree with Garandsrus, I have found new cases are very sticky. I have taken to tumbling them with much improved results.

I use Hornady One Shot when I have really clean cases that are sticking.

all sound advice. I'll throw in the tumbler. And I do have some one shot laying around for the batch already primed.

Run a toothpick around the groove in your shellholder to make sure you don't have a piece of debris in there preventing the case from going into the shellholder as far as it should.

Did you size them? Maybe the case mouths are out of round from shipping.

Used some case lube for what I had primed, not even a hiccup. Thanks guys! I’m gonna clean and size the rest of the new brass. This has never happened before, never woulda thought new brass would have an issue- live and learn

Have lubed inside case necks since I started.
