    Red dot powder in my 450 bushmaster

    Hi all. I want to use this powder I have 405 weight home cast lead Bullets I shoot a ruger American Bolt action Looking for quiet reduced loads . I’m open to 300 and 350 grain cast lead loads too

    Unique proved better in mine with Lyman 450g @ 1075fps. Herco Green dot & Red Dot didnt shoot sell.
    Much fun & serious payload delivered!! Its nearly 1200 fpe!!!

    No experience with the .450, but Unique and Herco are both good with bullets like that in my .45-70. One of those things not in current manuals but the older Lyman manuals have the data.

    One of those Rugers in .450 sounds cool, but I already reload and cast for too many things.

    You're asking about using .458” bullets in a cartridge designed for .452” bullets. That is starting out with a big snag in the plan. Correct size and weight bullets used over Red Dot in a bolt action would not be hard to get going- try .45 Colt data.

    Thanks for the tip Texas. I have used a 454 sizer and then a 452 sizer ....my pills are soft , they actually end up a touch over 450 after being pushed thru my 452 die. I wood never put a 458 size chunk of lead in a bushmaster rifle

    I didnt comment to size as I assumed you knew this. I also size mine to 454 and shoot a few different cast bullets with zero issues excellent Preformance and great accuracy from some!!
