    Dillon 1" Lock Rings

I use a Redding T-7 for a lot of my reloading. One problem I have is making small adjustments to the dies(mostly RCBS). Trying to get a regular Allen wrench in the set screw is almost impossible for me. I don't have much luck trying to rotate the lock ring and die without changing the relationship and losing my adjustment.

One solution I have considered is buying Dillon lock rings and using the Dillon wrench to tighten the lock ring without changing the adjustment.

    Anyone ever tried this?

I’m confused about your problem. I put the allen wrench into the grub screw, loosen it, leave the wrench in the screw and use it to hold the lock ring in position, rotate the die as desired, tighten the grub screw. No problem making small adjustments.

For my Dillon 550, I standardized on the Dillon lock nuts and their new multi-tooth wrench. There's so little real estate on the tool head I just could not get larger wrenches, hex keys and original lock nuts (like RCBS or LEE) to work.

Dillon's older wrench had parallel jaws and didn't offer a lot of access flexibility. The new wrench is better. Also, their lock nuts are just a bit smaller, so the skinny wrench fits pretty well.

Don't get me going on Lock Nuts. I've tried them all.

Three kinds of RCBS: direct set screw, split, and direct brass set screw:

Lee, with the rubber O-Ring (and recently Lee changed to split type):

Home Made from 7/8" nuts I found in a surplus store:

I believe the very best nut, if you're working a single stage press and have wrench room, is the Hornady Split with the flat sides:

But they don't work on the Dillon tool head.

I agree on Hornady split with flats and have replaced most all of my others with them.

I guess I'll have to look into the Hornady lock rings and the Dillon toothed wrench. Several of my Dillon setups had the bigger rings. When they came out with the 1" rings, I got those for each die on each tool head along with the straight side wrench. A little inconvenient but not much.

For awhile, I even tried using a 1" Deep Socket, 1/2" drive.

But the decapping pins were too long on most sizing dies. The socket was not a universal answer.

On my single stage presses I use what ever nuts come with the dies, But I got the blue bug and bought two Dillon 750 presses in the mess we have lived through I could not get Dillion dies, so I set up with the lee dies I have had for years but I had to get a pack of dillion 1" nuts to make it work, now that they are in there that is most likely stay for ever.
