    Hodgdon Universal in 45-70 Govt

I've been trying to find information if Universal can be used for castboolits in the 45-70 but can't seem to find any information. Anyone know if Universal is useful, and, if so, where to find load data?

    Thanks.

One of my favorite loads in .45 Gov't is 13 gr Unique and a 405 gr NOE RNFP. I have substituted Universal for Unique in dozens of loads including shotgun and rifle and it chronos the same with no pressure signs. That being said...never load outside of published pressure tested data and never substitute components! Keep looking for Universal data in .45 Gov't, I'm at a loss....

Yes, Universal is good and much like Unique.
I second quail4jake about using known good data, so my 9grs of Universal that I do not remember what source it came from, won't help much - If I can't direct you to the data. Found it long a go. It was the starting load.
Anyway, a very light powder-puff load is the 330gr Gould bullet and 9grs of Universal. Good for accurate shooting at 50y and 100yds in a variety of my 45-70 rifles both singleshot and lever.

One of my molds is a 330 HP Lyman mold.
