Do you crimp 22hor.,218bee,223 cast all shooting in contender pistol
In a Contender you really don't need to crimp, but a crimp helps to have a more consistent burn rate and velocity. I crimp all my ammo that I shoot in my Contenders. I used to have 11 different calibers and it just got to be a lot of work. I have trimmed down to 3. 223, 30-30 and 44 Mag all 14 inchers. Those cover just about any thing I want to shoot.
I lightly crimp "MOST" my cast. But ALL is done with a taper crimp. More for smooth feeding than bullet retention.

A light crimp is good . If the boolit has a crimp groove then a light roll crimp.
No crimp groove ... then a light taper crimp .
Aides in powder burn and removes any flair or bell to the neck ...but mainly helps slow powder get a complete burn .

The crimp makes the bullet stay in place a bit longer at first, thew bullet cannot move until pressure comes up a bit more, vs. no crimp.
No, I have not found any improvement by crimping with cast or jacketed bullets in the 22 Hornet or 223 Remington for use in my Contenders. I do crimp cast and jacketed M193 bullets for use in gas guns but not other bullets that do not have a cannelure. I
