    Another 6.5 Jap Question

Is anyone loading the Lee 170 gr Cruise Missele in this cartridge? My mold drops a .270 and my rifle has a .268 barrel. so should work, I would think.

The Lee CM is just too much of what someone thought was a good thing. I have tried every way I could in the 6.5 Swede and my 6.5 Jap. Never got that good of accuracy out of it as in both rifles it showed instability on target [visible signs of keyholing] at 100 yards. Some have shortened it to about 150 -160 gr and then got good accuracy. I just got a proper, proven mould.

I do have a RCBS 140gr mold but it drops .266, wonder if PC up to 268 or so would work?
    Maybe Beagle it up some?

I use the Lee cruise missile bullet cut down to 150gn, it casts at .2695 and it works ok in my Type 38 but really well in my gain twist M91 Carcano.

The best cast bullet I have tried in my Type 38 is the RCBS 140gn silhouette beagled to .268. it is also my bullet of choice for my M96 Swede sized to .266.

My Type 38 slugs at L.2515/G.265.

I lube with Lee liquid Alox and get zero leading.

I have some original Jap military ball and it averages out at .262 diameter.

As I remember the military bullet was 156 grains so 170 lead may well work well.

    Or NOT.

I have found to experiment by doing it is the best indicator.

LIMITED testing with the RCBS 140 sized at 0.266" worked decently out of a carbine that I tested.

    I'm still working .......

The 270-140 NOE was good , mine drops .272 in my alloy and shot well enough to make more work make sense .

I sized a 266469 .265 and paper patched up for the .272+ throat for good results .

Mine is .257×.268 , 1-9.5 " . It was dull and dark , 25 rounds of patches got it mostly shiny . Several places with pits still . Built 1927 .

.257x268 sounds like mine. Mine is a carbine sporter with a Mannlicher birdseye maple stock.
I did paper patch up a few of the RCBS 140gr and it shows some promise. I have yet to try the Lee 170gr but with it dropping them at .270 I am going to give it a try.
Do you have a favorite powder?
