    Pressure testing Lyman 525 solids

These weighed in around 592 grs. Tested 29-31 grs of longshot in 3” Rio hulls and 078 Lightening wads for a buddy.

Didn’t chrono these because it was raining. Pressure didn’t vary too much from 29-31 grs. Still got room to add depending on accuracy.

First two batches had ok crimps. Cleaned my roll crimper for the 3rd and the burn time leveled out.

    592 hrs. seems heavy!

Are those cast from a Lyman mould or a clone?

    Pure lead?

Those are from that mold that there was a group buy a couple years back on CB. It’s a clone but I forget who makes it. Came with two pins: hollow base for 525’s and pins for solid base.

And yes, I used pure lead.

I'm guessing that 592 gr. is solid?

Was that the NOE mould? Far as I know it was pretty much an exact replica of the Lyman so should be close to 525 grs. if HB. Same should apply to the Mihec version. Not sure if there was another GB.

If solid that explains it. Just seemed heavy for a "525" gr. design. Nothing wrong with 592 gr. slug though just curious about the weight.

Yes, that’s it. NOE mold. It throws perfect 525 HB slugs around 523-526 grs.

Hah! If I read the title right I guess that says it all "Pressure testing Lyman 525 solids" so Lyman sabot slug clone but solid. DOH!!

I was thinking at 592 grs. it might have been one of those Russian moulds with different HB plugs... but hadn't heard of a group buy for one.

I'll try to do better next time!
